For the buildings a community looks after

Village halls, community centres, churches and council buildings are looked after by people who hand the role on every few years. Places by Marklet keeps the building's record in one place, so it stays when they move on.

Churches

For fabric committees, churchwardens and the PCC: the inspection and what it recommends, the permissions you hold, works and grants.

For churches

Parish and town councils

For clerks and councillors: every hall, pavilion, play area and shelter, with its assets, inspections, works, budget and meetings.

For councils

Village and community halls

For trustees and committees: the building checks, the works, the contractors and the budget, kept for whoever takes the role next.

See how it works

The roles change. The record stays.

Volunteers and officers come and go. What was checked, what was done and what it cost should not leave with them.

  1. The inspection is recorded

The report, the date and every recommendation in it.

  2. A new treasurer takes over

The budget, the invoices and what each grant paid for are already there.

  3. The works are signed off

Quotes, the contractor's documents and the sign-off stay with the order.

  4. The next volunteer starts

They pick up where the last one left off, not from a box of paper.

How it works

One record for each building

Whatever the building, the same record: what was checked, what was repaired, what it cost and what was agreed.

Every recommendation followed through

The inspection or condition survey goes on file once. Each thing it recommends then shows whether it became a job, went into the ten-year plan or is still waiting for the committee to decide.

Checks that do not rely on memory

Fire risk assessment reviews, gas, electrics, legionella and asbestos sit on one calendar at the interval you set, so nobody has to remember which one is next or when it was last done.

Know what will need replacing

Boilers, roofs, kitchens and play equipment, each with its age, expected life and condition, so the committee can plan for a replacement rather than be surprised by one.

How councils use the asset register

Grants the next treasurer can follow

Once a grant is awarded, its conditions, the report the funder expects and the invoices it paid stay together. Marklet holds no grant money and applies for nothing.

Grants and permissions for churches

Works and contractors

Send a contractor the job by link, line up the quotes and file the sign-off where the next person will look for it.

Budget against actual

One budget for your buildings, with spend landing against it as invoices come in, and a link to your accounting software if you use one.

Meetings and decisions

Agendas, minutes and resolutions kept beside the building, with checks that have fallen overdue offered up for the next agenda.

It keeps the record. The decisions stay with you.

Your accounts package keeps the books, and the bodies you answer to keep their own processes. Marklet is where the people looking after the building keep track of what is there, what was checked and when, what was done about it, what it cost and what was agreed.
Built around the buildings you look after, from the hall to the play area
Unlimited users: the committee, the officers and the volunteers who do the work
The people you answer to can follow the work without instructing or approving it
Your committee stays in charge: Marklet keeps the record, and every decision and application stays yours

Frequently asked questions

Who is it for?
The committees, trustees, councils and volunteers who look after a village hall, community centre, church, or a council's halls, pavilions and play areas.
We look after several buildings. Is that one workspace?
Yes. A hall, a pavilion and a meeting room can share one workspace, each with its own checks and works, and you can add as many people as you need.
Can we sign up online?
Councils, halls and other community buildings can: choose "A building the organisation uses and looks after itself" when you sign up. While this plan is new, a person here checks every signup before the workspace opens. Places of worship are set up with us: request access, and someone here will be in touch.
How much does it cost?
Places by Marklet runs on the Premises plan, which is not yet priced publicly. The price is shown to you before you subscribe, and nothing is taken until you do.
Does Marklet make us compliant?
No. Marklet keeps a record of what you do. It is not legal advice, and keeping a record in it does not carry out or satisfy an inspection, an audit or a permission. The duty stays with whoever holds it.
